After obliging home-furnishings
aficionados on the West Coast, Ann Getty introduced her
furniture collection to New York in October. In addition
to a growing number of originally designed pieces, the Ann
Getty House Collection features reproductions of selected
pieces from her personal collection. The bureau bookcase,
a rich-toned
chinoiserie stunner, is based on a piece in the Blue Library
of Ann and husband Gordon Getty’s San Francisco home.
The bookcase is “both beautiful and functional.
I admire the craftspeople who put in literally hundreds
of hours
developing the layers of chinoiserie finish,” says
Getty.
Other notable items in the House Collection include a Georgian
breakfront library bookcase, circa 1740, an 18th-century
Neoclassical painted and parcel-gilt dining side chair and
a Regency brass-mounted parcel-gilt black lacquered and
Japanned side table, circa 1810. |
