Refuge
The modern movie palace finds a royal place at home.
No
more movie lines. The state-of-the-art theater that re-creates
the visual and sonic impact of the silver screen and puts
you in the middle of the latest blockbuster action has come
home.
If you don't know the difference between THX processing
and DSS satellite integration, there is no need to worry.
There are experts who do.
“Our clients want to see a movie intimately in the
comfort of their own home, and we're the ones who
make it happen,” says Robert Kaufman, owner of Audio
Command Systems, a custom audiovisual installation business
headquartered in Westbury, NY, with branches in Atlanta,
Boca Raton and Los Angeles.
Since 1976, ACS has been designing and installing media
rooms and home theaters for residential and commercial clients.
The company provides state-of-the-art audio, video, multimedia,
communications, automation and lighting components and has
earned a reputation for quality, innovation and responsiveness
to client needs. “Our talented system designers specialize
in shaping technology to fit your lifestyle, while maintaining
sensitivity to architecture and interior design,”
Kaufman says.
Home-theater design involves more than choosing the right
equipment. Other important aspects include lighting, acoustics,
sight lines, seating positions and unified control. “We
meet with clients to determine what they expect from the
system and then we proceed to design, engineer and install
a system that meets those expectations,” Kaufman explains.
Many clients want their theaters to be thoroughly integrated
into a room's established décor and function
or to be virtually invisible until showtime.
ACS specializes in large-scale jobs, which can cost from
$75,000 to $150,000, usually for a home theater or for entire-home
audio and visual systems. “We've even created
theaters with draperies that open to reveal the screen and
even a ‘lobby' complete with candy counter,”
Kaufman says. After all, what's a movie without popcorn?
