A
Très Chic Display
In honor of his son Randolph's 21st birthday, Winston
Churchill presented him with a Cartier cigarette case inscribed
in his own handwriting. The case – along with approximately
120 other intimate and stylish objects owned by the powerful
and famous – will be part of a fascinating new exhibit
organized by the National Jewelry Institute. Treasures of
the Titans: 1900 - 1950 celebrates the personal style of leaders
from the worlds of art, society, fashion, sports, entertainment,
government and industry. Among the highlights are a Dunhill
lighter – designed by Pablo Picasso – given to
friend and fellow artist Dora Maar; a Van Cleef winged fairy
pin bought for heiress Barbara Hutton by the Duke of Westminster
and a five-piece Tiffany-designed ebony-and-silver dressing
set owned by John D. Rockefeller, Sr.
