Tom Pecheux has created a special collection of six favorite glosses and in the Q & A below he shares his tips on choosing colors and proper application.
Please describe the new Pure Color Lip Gloss collection.
What I really like about these glosses is that you can build the color. They are very multi-functional. You can create a very transparent look
or apply layer after layer for a more intense effect.
Please describe the shade line-up.
I think it’s a very impressive color palette that will answer a lot of women’s needs around the world when it comes to gloss. I think the different finishes will help with this as well. They go from what I would call a “Matte” gloss to extra shine with shimmer and sparkle as well.
Within the Pure Color Lip Gloss collection, you have chosen six favorite glosses. Why these in particular?
For me, there is a gap between real life and fashion. In fashion, we use young girls and we make them look older. But in real life, you are usually older and want to look younger! So for me, when you use the more matte glosses, they make you look like more of an adult and the shimmer glosses which a lot of women love, make you look younger and more like a pretty girl.
I have chosen a more matte gloss line-up because perhaps it is my reputation as a makeup artist, but I always like to make a girl look more adult. These six colors are for a grown-up look, starting with Nude Rose and ending with Red Tango for the glamorous, grown up look. I chose colors that I will use the most in my everyday work and that I like the most. I also believe these six colors will be the most fashionable colors and will look good on any woman so long as she feels confident wearing them. When I work on a fashion show, I sometimes work with up to 50 models and they come from everywhere. There are redheads, dark hair, Asian skin, dark skin….and they all have to look good – not the same but the same palette adapted to the face. That is how I see these colors working on different people.
How would you choose from these colors?
We have a nude called Perfect Nude which you would use when you want your lips to disappear to focus on the eyes. The warm color Nude Rose gives a lovely tint to your lips. The other four colors are more like fashion accessories. You would choose these depending on your fashion direction and what you like to wear.
What colors work best on different skin tones?
I believe that a woman should wear whatever color she likes and feels comfortable wearing, regardless of skin tone. A gloss is not as heavy as
a lipstick so there are no rules. You can wear whatever you like. Gloss gives women the opportunity to play. And because these glosses are
multi-functional, you can wear them in many ways; You can build the coverage of any color to wear it the way you want and personalize it.
You can make it transparent or you make it a very deep color, so if you want a transparent hint of coral, just use one layer, if you want a strong coral lip, layer the gloss over a lipstick. It’s all about how you want to wear it.
Do you have any special tips on proper lip gloss application?
If you are wearing a powerful color like a red, using it with a lip pencil will give it the most matte and stable finish. If you want density in your color and also the effect of a gloss, wear the gloss over a lipstick. It gives you full color but still adds shine and dimension to your lips.
A tip to give the look of a fuller lip using a gloss: Using a nude-color gloss like Opulent Opal, line the lips around the outside. This instantly gives lips a fuller shape. Then use a darker colored gloss all over the lips. Over time, this color will fade gently into the nude gloss and the lips will look full and sensual.
