Tom O'Brien is the President and General Manager of NBC Local Media New York, NBC4/NBC Universal.
Education: O'Brien graduated at the top of his class from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and School of Management with a dual Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing and in Telecommunications Management.
Background: Prior to that, O'Brien was President and General Manager of WVIT in Hartford, CT from 1997-2001 after being promoted from the position of Station Manager after NBC's acquisition of WVIT from the Viacom/Paramount Stations Group. During his nine years with Viacom, O'Brien held several sales management positions prior to becoming WVIT's Station Manager including Director of Sales at Viacom/Paramount's WNYT in Albany, NY, and was the Local Sales Manager at WVIT in Hartford, CT. Prior to joining Viacom, O'Brien had a diverse background in the television industry, which included positions in sales and news/sports production at both the station and network levels.

In 2006, he was awarded AWRT's "Award of Excellence for TV Station General Management." While he was a business leader in Connecticut, O'Brien was named by the Hartford Business Journal as one of Hartford's "40 Under 40," recognized as one of the areas top business people under the age of 40. |
