Zen tranquility may not be the first thing that comes
to mind
when one thinks of Las Vegas, but the new Spa
Bellagio at the
Bellagio Hotel is changing that image. Why shouldn't
America's
fastest growing city have a world-class spa? After
all, Vegas
has evolved in a decidedly upscale direction, with
inexpensive
hotels giving way to luxe destination resorts and the
all-you-can-eat
$4 buffet being replaced by a plethora of restaurants
helmed
by star international chefs. No surprise, then, that
Rat Pack
raucousness now shares space with Mud Pack
rejuvenation.
Spa Bellagio would be a destination unto itself even
if it weren't
in Vegas. Its sleek ambiance is a vision of
travertine marble,
soothing bleached walnut and illuminated nephrite
jade. But
this is Las Vegas, and size matters – all 65,000
square
feet of it. Yet even with the nation's largest
Meditation
Room, the space is broken up into intimate, tranquil
and candlelit
niches, with cushy chairs galore, modern spare flower
arrangements
and a soothing mood throughout. Enter the spa, and
ka-ching
glitz gives way to Zen cool, a design concept that
has earned
it the nickname “the Getty Museum of spas.”
The “wow” factor extends to the extensive menu,
the usual massage/pampering suspects bolstered by an
impressive
slew of new, exotic treatments from Egyptian, Thai,
Indian,
Balinese, Indonesian and American Indian cultures. Go
for the
glam with the Caviar Fusion Facial of crushed pearls,
or the
Egyptian Gold experience, where your massage is
finished with
a full-body sprinkling of real gold dust. This is the
place
to discover the newest treatments: Ashiatsu massage,
Thai yoga,
a relaxing Chai Tea Hydrotherapy bath, a meditative
Bali Jamu
massage. As befits the hotel that perfected dancing
waters outside,
the spa doesn't stint inside: waterfalls and
waterwalls,
reflecting pools, no-waiting hot tubs, steam rooms
and state-of-the-art
wet rooms for hydrotherapy treatments. The new
treatment buzz
here is the Chai Tea Sugar Polish and Vichy shower,
where skin
is refreshed with an antioxidant exfoliation mix of
ginger,
clove, cardamom, coriander, black tea and organic
sugar to help
skin look fresher, rinsed off with shower wands, and
finished
off with a Chai Tea Body Butter moisturizing
massage.
For old-fashioned spa fun, there are special
pamper-party areas,
where groups can share spa/salon experiences, sip
Champagne
and nosh on chocolate-dipped strawberries the size of
grapefruit,
while having a manicure, pedicure and oxygen facial
at the same
time. And, to maintain that Vegas glow, the
Bellagio's
bath-and-body line lets you take the spa experience
home.
