On
February 11 at the Los Angeles Beverly Hilton,
members of the renowned
Israel Philharmonic Orchestra performed
the music of its beloved Laureate Conductor Leonard
Bernstein in a special evening with
the composer's daughter and featured guests.
The performance featured works from Bernstein's most
memorable musicals including West Side Story,
Candide and On the Town. Jamie
Bernstein, the composer's daughter, hosted
the evening taking the audience on a colorful tour
of her father's music with background information,
personal anecdotes and brief synopses. The
evening also featured Bernstein's one-time protégé conductor Michael
Barrett. Also on the program were Michelle
Areyzaga, soprano; Elizabeth Shammash,
mezzo-soprano; Jeffrey Picón,
tenor; and Hugh Russell, baritone. With
a special guest appearance by Rita Moreno,
who contributed her artistry for this Benefit evening.
The gala began with a pre-concert reception, was
followed by the concert and concluded with dinner
and dancing. Composer John Williams was
honorary chairman. Daphna and Richard
Benefit chairmen.
