“Adults
in Toyland Casino Night" co-chairs Susan Block Casdin, Morgan Hertzan,
Steven Jaffe, Patti Kim, Kelly Kennedy Mack, Harlan Fabrikant Saroken,
Josh Laterman and Michael Weaver hosted a festive night in a casino setting
with a silent auction to benefit the Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s
Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and the Department of Pediatrics
at NYU Langone Medical Center on Thursday, November 12, 2009, at The
Edison Ballroom in Manhattan. Presented by Caesars Atlantic City, the
Hassenfeld and KiDS of NYU Associates Committees, the event attracted
young New York City professionals and included a fun-filled evening of
casino games and a premier silent auction to support the programs.
Over
730 guests attended the event, which raised a record $642,670 to fund
integrative-care support programs and clinical research at the Stephen
D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders
and the Department of Pediatrics. The Center has been a leader in the
outpatient treatment of children with cancer and blood disorders, combining
world-class medical therapies and facilities with psychosocial and emotional
support services for young patients and their families.
Event-goers,
stars, and socialites including Countess Luann de Lesseps, Dan Abrams,
Pippa Cohen, Vivien and Alan Hassenfeld, Carol Alt, Christine and Richard
Mack, Alice Tisch, Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch, Kimberly and Jonathan Schulhof,
Marjorie Reed Gordon, Dori Cooperman, Amanda Smith, Amy Dwek, former
NY Knicks star Herb Williams, LX-TV’s George Oliphant and Sara
Gore, director Doug Liman and guest D.J. Pedro Andrade, gambled the night
away—with all winnings going toward the Hassenfeld Center & NYU
Department of Pediatrics—and bid on priceless silent auction items
including walk-on roles to the hit shows How I Met Your Mother and Ugly
Betty, a meet-and-greet for four people with the hosts of The View, and
a date with former bachelorette contestant Reid Rosenthal.
The Hassenfeld
and KiDS of NYU Associates Committees are groups of young professionals
from various corporate, cultural and philanthropic backgrounds who are
committed to improving the lives of the children who are treated at NYU
Langone Medical Center. The goal is to help provide services that reduce
stress and anxiety for patients and families, services which are often
not covered by health insurance. Proceeds from the 2009 “Adults
in Toyland Casino Night” will support vital integrative-care initiatives
and clinical research at the Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center
for Cancer and Blood Disorders and growth within the Department of Pediatrics
by recruiting talented physicians, strengthening important programs,
and creating the finest facilities for children on NYU Langone’s
campus.
Attendees included: Dr. Robert I. Grossman, dean and CEO of NYU
Langone Medical Center; Dr. William Carroll, director of the NYU Cancer
Institute; Dr. Linda Granowetter, the newly appointed director of the
Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center; Catherine Manno, MD, Pat
and John Rosenwald Professor of Pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics,
