Approximately $480,000 was raised to support clinical research on autism and other serious developmental disorders in children at the April 26 “Spirit of Achievement” Luncheon of Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University.

The event at The Pierre Hotel in New York City, which was sponsored by Einstein's National Women's Division and attended by more than 500 supporters of the medical school, also honored six exceptional women who have made outstanding contributions in their fields.

Lois Pope, founder of the Lois Pope LIFE Center and founder and president of Leaders in Furthering Education (LIFE), was given The Lizette H. Sarnoff Award for Volunteer Service.  In addition, “Spirit of Achievement” Awards were presented to Princess Yasmin Aga Kahn, founder of the Rita Hayworth Galas and a leading advocate for Alzheimer's disease research; Alma Johnson Powell, chair of America's Promise – The Alliance for Youth (and wife of former Secretary of State Colin Powell); Margaret
Russell
, editor and co-founder of Elle Decor magazine and trustee of DIFFA  (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS); Lynn Sherr, pioneering ABC-TV news correspondent and author; and Sharon Stone, award-winning actress and chair of amFAR's Campaign for AIDS Research. All awards were designed and donated by Tiffany & Co.
