On
May 14, American Ballet Theatre celebrated the opening
of their sixty-seventh annual Spring Gala at the Metropolitan
Opera House with a Pièce d'Occasion by internationally
acclaimed pianist Lang Lang accompanied on-stage by
ABT dancers performing a pas de deux created especially
for the evening by choreographer Brian
Reeder. ABT
principal dancers performed highlights from the season's
upcoming repertoire including the world premiere of
Sleeping Beauty. Over $2.6 million was raised
for the new production of The
Sleeping Beauty and $2
million was raised at the gala. Following the performance,
guests were treated to a black tie dinner and dance
in the Tent at Lincoln Center.
The evening's honorary chairs were Caroline
Kennedy and Blaine Trump. Co-chairs
were Sloan Lindemann Barnett, Tory
Burch, Susan Fales-Hill and Carolina
Herrera. The chair
emerita was Aileen Mehle. Underwriting
