The
Regency Hyatt in Greenwich was transformed into a Moroccan
hotspot on March 24 for the American Cancer
Society's (ACS) “A Night in Casablanca” gala.
More than 350 guests, including Congressman Christopher
Shays and Connecticut State Attorney General Richard
Blumenthal attended the formal dinner dance.
The event honored Dr. John Pezzimenti of
Danbury Hospital's Praxair Medical Center, Dr.
Milton Armm of Bridgeport Hospital, Dr.
Richard Zelkowitz of Norwalk Hospital, Dr.
Timothy Hall of Stamford Hospital, Dr. Barbara Ward of
Greenwich Hospital, and Dr. Christopher Iannuzzi of
St. Vincent's Medical Center. Each physician was
awarded the Society's Star of Hope Award
for excellence in providing compassionate and skilled
care for people facing cancer and their unyielding contribution
in the cancer fight.
Greg Durkin co-chaired the event with his wife Yvonne
Paulin. WCBS News Radio anchor Joe Avellar hosted
the evening and Mark Blechman, president and auctioneer of
International Fiduciary, Inc (IFI) and owner of the Shippan Center for Arts
and Antiques, served as auctioneer for the live auction.
Proceeds from the event supported the American Cancer
Society's funding for cancer research, cancer prevention
education programs, cancer patient services, advocacy
for cancer patients and their caregivers
