The Royal
Rajasthan Gala, benefiting the Brain
Trauma Foundation took place on March 7
at The Pierre Hotel. Bringing together the
vibrant colors, intense aromas and seductive music
of India's majestic Rajasthan region, the evening
raised over $1 million to benefit the Brain Trauma
Foundation's mission of saving and improving
the lives of head injury patients.
His Highness Maharaja Gajsingh II of Marwar-Jodhpur was
this year's General chairman. Raymond
Bickson, Alan Quasha and Aroon Shivdasani are
co-chairs, Bina Ramani and Deborah
Ward were Auction co-chairs and Drs.
Anjum and Pervez Ahmed were
the Physicians Committee chairs.
The mission of the Brain Trauma Foundation
is to improve the outcome of Traumatic Brain Injury
(TBI) patients. For twenty years, under the leadership
of neurosurgeon Dr. Jam Ghajar, the Brain Trauma Foundation
has developed and maintained best practice guidelines
for TBI emergency care. TBI is the leading cause
of death and disability in children and young adults
and through their practices, the Brain Trauma Foundation
has helped to save thousands of lives throughout the
world. Part of the proceeds from the Royal Rajasthan
Gala will establish a trust in Delhi called the India
Head Injury Foundation (IHIF), which will help educate
medical professionals and create an India-wide trauma
system, providing the best emergency care.
