The
22nd Annual Celebrity Paws Gala, benefiting Citizens for Animal
Protection, was held on Saturday, November 22, 2008 in the Hilton
Americas Hotel Ballroom in Houston, TX. 650 guests helped raise $450,000.
The evening included a cocktail reception, silent auction, and the
presentation of “Houston's Ten Elite and their Pets” competing
in their specially designed Chateaux des Paws vying for the title
of “Celebrity Pet of the Year”. The evening continued
with a seated dinner, entertainment and live auction. KHOU Channel
11's Debora Duncan was Master of Ceremonies; Vikki Vines
was the auctioneer. Ballroom design was by Daryl Murchison of Darryl & Co.
Impressionist/Comedian Rich Little was the 2008 special guest star.
The Gala chairmen were Linda Schmuck and Todd Zucker, co-chairman
was Carolyn Faulk and honorary chairmen were Chris Sanders and Don
Sanders. Susan Boggio and Dan Boggio were presented with the Cherished
Companion Award and Janice Hall was inducted into the Celebrity Paws
Hall of Fame.
The 2008 “Ten Elite Honorees” and their pets competing
for the “Celebrity Pet of the Year” title wer Clair Amonett
with Sophie, Michelle Bohreer with Duke, Gwen Joekel with Sandy & Charlie,
Shelby Kibodeaux with Toby, Patti Murphy with Dolce, Margaret Reckling
with Isabella, Vanessa Riley with Friday, Laura Spalding with Jolly,
Monsour Taghdisi with Tyke and Natalie Wall with Alex.
Chateaux des Paws Designers were Lucas Chavez, LC Floral Design,
Debbie Elias, CSEP,CMP, Neiman Marcus, Gene Ruple, Fashionable
Events Design Team, and The Phoenix Design Group, Inc.
Citizens For Animal Protection, a non-profit service organization,
has served pets and people in Greater Houston for over 36 years.
Since 1972, CAP has sheltered and cared for over 425,000 orphaned,
neglected and injured animals. CAP is proud to have earned the PetsMart
Charities' National Humane Award of Excellence and a 4-Star
rating with www.CharityNavigator.com for the 6th consecutive
year.
