On October
5 the long-awaited Grand Opening of Carnival
Center for the Performing Arts in Miami kicked
off with “The Concert for Miami” a star-studded
event produced by Emilio Estefan and
hosted by Quincy Jones, featuring
performances by Gloria Estefan, Bernadette
Peters and Andy Garcia, among
others. The weekend continued with additional
performances featuring the New World Symphony, Florida
Grand Opera and Miami City Ballet,
a black tie gala and a late-night dance club. The Grand
Opening concluded with “Target Globalbeat,” a
multicultural celebration of musical performances from
reggae and rumba to samba and hip-hop.
