On
May 2, New York's most philanthropic
women united in Central Park's Conservatory
Garden to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the annual
Frederick Law Olmsted Awards Luncheon (FLO) hosted
by the Women's Committee of the Central
Park Conservancy.
This year's chairwomen were Serena Boardman, Betsy
Messerschmitt, Hilary Geary Ross, Blaine
Trump and Thorunn Wathne. Ira
M. Millstein, senior partner at Weil, Gotshal
and Manges, LLP, served as corporate chairman.
The Women's Committee is an association
dedicated to fundraising for Central Park and enhancing
the Conservancy's programs in education, conservation,
and horticulture. The committee has stewarded the FLO
Awards Luncheon from a casual lunch gathering of a
few hundred guests to an ultrachic affair in Central
Park's Conservatory Garden attended this year
by 1,240 of the brightest socialites in New York. $2.3
million was raised this year from FLO for the Conservancy's
ongoing mission of restoring and maintaining Central
Park for generations of New Yorkers.
The event also honors a deserving Central Park benefactor
every year. This year's FLO Awards acknowledged
the past 25 years of honorees, which include: Women's
Committee founders Mrs. Howard L. Clark, Mrs. Charles A
Dana, Jr. and Mrs. Richard I. Purnell and Mrs.
Phyllis Cerf Wagner, former Parks Commissioners Gordon
J. Davis and Henry J. Stern,
former Mayor Edward I. Koch as well
as Suzanne Cochran, Richard
Gilder, Lynden B. Miller, Elizabeth
Barlow Rogers, Arthur Ross,
the City of New York and many others.
