Meryl Streep led a galaxy of stars as hundreds of the nation's “leading ladies” from business, government, media, entertainment and the arts gathered at the Rainbow Room for the 20th annual Citymeals-on-Wheels “Power Lunch for Women” emceed by CNN's Paula Zahn.
Honored for their companies' long-standing commitment to Citymeals were Cathleen Black, president of Hearst Magazines; Citigroup CFO Sallie Krawcheck; and executive vice president and CFO of Verizon Communications, Doreen Toben. The Power Lunch was co-chaired by Ms. Streep, supermodel Iman and Broadway producer Fran Weissler.
This by-invitation-only benefit raised a record-breaking $1.1 million, which will provide 220,000 meals for New York's frail homebound elderly.
Citymeals-on-Wheels is a non-profit organization that funds the delivery of meals to homebound seniors on weekends, holidays and in emergency situations, times when they otherwise would be alone and hungry. This year alone, Citymeals-on-Wheels will underwrite 2.5 million meals for over 17,500 elderly New Yorkers in all five boroughs.
