Dia:Beacon hosted its annual spring benefit at Dia:Beacon, Riggio Galleries in Beacon, New York on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Dia honored John Chamberlain with special remarks by fellow artist and long-time friend Lawrence Weiner. The event also included a performance of works by choreographer Yvonne Rainer, a luncheon in the Chamberlin gallery, a children’s program, and a gallery tour of Jean-Luc Moulène’s Opus + One, with Dia curator Yasmil Raymond.
The proceeds raised from the event will support Dia:Beacon’s exhibitions and dynamic public and educational programming. Select images from the benefit are available upon request.
This year’s benefit was co-chaired by Dia Trustee Christopher M. Bass, Muriel Brandolini, and Alison Spear. In addition to Benefit co-chairs, Dia director Philippe Vergne, Dia chairman Nathalie de Gunzburg and her husband Charles de Gunzburg attended, along with Dia trustees Frances Bowes, Virginia Lebermann, and Howard Rachofsky, with wife Cindy, Marissa Sackler, and Charles Wright.
Philanthropists and art supporters in attendance included: Susan Almrud, JK Brown and Eric Diefenbach, Eileen and Michael Cohen, Rebecca and Martin Eisenberg, Rena and Scott Hoffman, Pamela Joyner Genny and Selmo Nissenbaum, Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu, Amy and John Phelan, Warrie and James Price, Kirk and Liz Radke, Alex Reese (husband of co-chair, Alison Spear), Jonathan and Diana Rose, Michael Ward Stout, and Peter and Helen Warwick.
Many gallerists were also present, among them Roland J. Augustine; Douglas Baxter of The Pace Gallery; Gavin Brown, Hope Atherton, and Elise Overland of Gavin Brown’s enterprise; Peter C. Freeman, Carol Greene and Jeffrey Rowledge of Greene Naftali; Tina Kim and Jae Chung, Sukanya Rajaratnamm of L&M, Elizabeth Sadeghi of Greenberg Van Doren Gallery, Deepak Talwar, Leslie Tonkonow, and Kara Vander Weg of Gagosian Gallery.
Artists in attendance included Babette Mangolte, Jean-Luc Moulène, Forrest Myers, Yoko Ono, Mike and Doug Starn, Lawrence Weiner, Robert Whitman, Ian Wilson, Marian Zazeela, and La Monte Young, along with poets Lee Ann Brown, Thomas Fink and Alan Gilbert.
Other notable guests included Architect and designer Rafael de Cardenas, Grey Area co-founder Manish Vora, Scoop NYC founder Susan Davidson and Allen Miller, Jewelry designer James de Givenchy and Gina de Givenchy, John Chamberlains widow’s Prudence Fairweather along with daughters Phoebe and Alexandra Fairweather, Dia founder Heiner Friedrich, Interior furnishings store owner Nina Griscom and realtor Leonel Piraino, Giorgio Armani Senior Vice President Rod Manley, art advisor Katherine Robinson, Art advisor, blogger, and personality Adam Shopkorn and Coach USA executive Carolyn Tate Angel.
Natural beauty company Aesop created a custom-made travel kit for guests, specially designed and packaged to honor Dia:Beacon’s exhibitions and programs. Floral arrangements and décor were designed by Matthew Robbins Design and the event was produced by MF Productions.
Donations and in-kind contributions were generously been provided by Aesop and Millbrook Vineyards & Winery, with additional support from illy caffè.
