“Spirit of Achievement” Luncheon


Spirit of Achievement honorees Candace Bushnell, Elizabeth F. Stribling, Dierdre Imus, Fran Weissler, Mistress of Ceremonies Rosanna Scotto, honorees Nina Zagat and Christiane Celle.

Approximately $300,000 was raised to support research in genetic medicine at a May 2 “Spirit of Achievement” Luncheon of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine's Women's Division.

The event, which attracted more than 400 supporters of the medical school to the Waldorf - Astoria in New York City, also honored six exceptional women who have made outstanding contributions in their fields.  Deirdre Imus, president and founder of the Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology,  was given The Lizette H. Sarnoff Award for Volunteer Service and the following five women received “Spirit of Achievement” Awards: Candace Bushnell, television producer, radio host and creator of “Sex and the City”; Christiane Celle, founder and CEO of Calypso; Elizabeth F. Stribling, president of Stribling & Associates; Fran Weissler, five-time Tony Award-winning producer, and Nina Zagat, co-founder and co-chair of Zagat Survey.

The National Women's Division of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University -- a pre-eminent center for research, medical education and clinical investigation -- has supported and encouraged the growth and development of the medical school since the Division was founded in 1953 – two years before the College opened. Since its first luncheon honoring women of achievement in 1954, the Division has grown to include 1,500 members with chapters in New York City, New Jersey and Westchester/Fairfield Counties. It has raised over $100 million for biomedical research and education.
