On
November 2, El Museo del Barrio's
Young International Committee celebrated
the Dia de los Muertos with masked wrestlers
and traditional altars decked with marigolds,
skeletons, watermelons, and open bottles of tequila.
Chairmen Jana Pasquel, Samantha
Thompson, and Mayra Hernandez greeted
guests under the beautiful vaulted ceilings of
a 150 year old gothic building by candlelight,
and Museo Director Julian Zugazagoitia welcomed
guests from inside the wrestling ring at the
center of the party.
Guests including designers Zang Toi,
Gemma Kahng, Maria Cornejo, and Christian
Cota, leaned over the balcony to watch
Zugazagoitia referee the authentic Mexican
wrestling match between two luchadores.
Guests sipped on margaritas and sangrita at
the beautiful lower east side Angel Orensanz
Foundation, and after the wrestling match was
over, they took over the ring for dancing.
