The
Fountain House Symposium and Luncheon took place in
the Grand Ballroom of The Pierre on April 30. The symposium
entitled “Shades of Blue: Depressive Disorders
in Adolescents and Young Adults” featured a panel
discussion by three leading experts in the field of
mental health research, treatment, advocacy, and public
policy: Peter S. Jensen, M.D., a Ruane
Professor of Child Psychiatry and Director of the Center
for the Advancement of Children's Mental Health
at Columbia University; Elizabeth A. Kastelic,
M.D., Assistant Professor, Division of Child
and Adolescent Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital;
and Pete Earley, a former reporter
for The Washington Post and the author of Crazy:
A Father's Search Through America's Mental
Health Madness. The event's co-chairs were Lorna
Hyde Graev, Alexandra Herzan,
and Anne Mai. Lynn Nicholas served
as the symposim program chair. Consuelo Mack served
as emcee. Mary and Mike Wallace received
The 2007 Fountain House Humanitarian Award. Adam
Lewis and Peter B. Lewis,
founders, Fountain House Wellness Center, were honored
as well.
$925,000 was raised to benefit Fountain House, the award-winning,
59-year old non-profit organization that provides housing,
employment, wellness and educational services to men,
women and young adults with major mental illness. Fountain
House president Kenn Dudek and chairman
of the Board Guy de Chazal were pleased
with the overwhelming show of support.
