On
November 12, Jazz at
Lincoln Center hosted its annual fall
gala and raised more than $2 million for the
more than 2,000 education and performance events
the not-for-profit organization produces in New
York City and around the world each year. An
evening was filled with celebration and remembrances
of the late Ed Bradley,
beloved Board member of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
A star-studded crowd, on and off the stage, came
to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s home, Frederick
P. Rose Hall. chairman of the Board Lisa
Schiff officially renamed the Jazz
at Lincoln Center Award for Leadership, the Ed
Bradley Award for Leadership and bestowed it posthumously
to Ed Bradley. Ed Bradley’s
wife, Patricia Blanchet, accepted
the award and delivered a powerful acceptance speech
reminding the audience to keep Ed in their head and “Teddy,” his
musical alter-ego, in their feet.”
The concert that followed was a showcase of big band
arrangements performed by the Jazz
at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and
guest vocalists Eartha Kitt,
Fantasia and Paul
Anka. The Orchestra opened the concert
with rousing performances of “Things to Come” by
Dizzy Gillespie and “String of Pearls” by
Glenn Miller.
The elegant evening was co-chaired by Gordon
J. Davis, Dewey & LeBoeuf, LLC; Leslie
Moonves, president and CEO, CBS Corporation; Sir
Howard Stringer, chairman & CEO, Sony
Corporation. Dinner chairmen were Kathryn
McAuliffe and Jay L. Kriegel. The
Corporate chairmen were Agnes Varis,
Agvar Chemicals Inc.; and Karen
Rafferty, Cadillac.
