On
November 28, Vicki and Fred
Modell, of the Jeffrey Modell
Foundation hosted the Young Professionals
for Primary Immunodeficiency cocktail party at
PM Lounge in New York City. The Jeffrey
Modell Foundation (JMF) was established in 1987
by Vicki and Fred Modell in memory of their son,
Jeffrey, who died from complications of Primary
Immunodeficiency at the age of 15. JMF
is a global nonprofit foundation devoted to early
diagnosis, meaningful treatments, and ultimately
cures of PI, through physician education, public
awareness and research.
Guests including Vicki and Fred Modell,
Ashley and Kimberly Karpf, Vanessa
Tenenbaum, Jeffrey Ganz, Carly Greenfield,
Amber Zieser, Brent Farber, Nicole Oge, Dana
Landis, Elisa Ganz, Nicole Oge, Chad Eggers,
Brit Nell, Jessie Epstein, Scott Rudin, Ashley
Blackman, Michèle Gerber Klein, and Christian
Daly sipped on specialty cocktails
and enjoyed Thai peanut chicken, coconut shrimp
and crab cakes. The party marked the
first collaborative event of the JMF and Young
Professionals to raise awareness amongst the
younger generation and spark interest in the
Modell's Spring Ahead Gala, held annually
at Cipriani's.
To date, there are 35 Jeffrey Modell Research
and Diagnostic Centers in the U.S., Canada, Europe,
Middle East, and Asia. Recently they collaborated
with the NIH and Affymetrix to develop a Gene
Chip using Microarray technology to do Newborn
Screening of Severe Combined Immune Deficiency. The
Modells have raised over $40 million for research
and education since starting the Foundation in
1987.
