Bernard Haitink conducts the London Symphony Orchestra
at the Lincoln Center Fall Gala concert.

The
world's largest performing arts center, Lincoln
Center for the Performing Arts, recognized
and celebrated the longstanding support it has received
from one of the world's major entertainment
and technology companies when Sir Howard
Stringer and Sony Corporation were
honored at the Lincoln Center Fall Gala on October
11 at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City. That
evening, at a dinner preceding a performance of Beethoven's
Ninth Symphony performed by the London Symphony
Orchestra led by Bernard Haitink,
mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne presented Mr. Stringer and Sony Corporation with the
Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts Distinguished
Service Award in recognition of their many years
of support for Lincoln Center's Corporate Fund. The
evening raised $1.8 million and was chaired by Mrs.
Martin D. Gruss.
