The Temptations performing at the Lincoln Center
Institute Gala.
|
Lincoln
Center Institute's (LCI) 2007
annual fund-raising Gala, held at the Rainbow Room
on February 26, raised a record one million dollars
to support the Institute's arts-and-education
programs.
In the past ten years, the Gala has grown
into one of the most visible New York events. This
year, Julia Stiles and Mica
Ertegun rubbed shoulders with the City's
Chancellor of the Department of Education, Joel
I. Klein. The Gala honored Susan
Lacy, Emmy-winning creator and executive
producer of American Masters, and William
F. Baker, chief executive of Thirteen/WNET
and WLIW21 New York, for their contributions to
the advancement of television as an educational
medium. Mr. Baker was presented with the first
ever Mark Schubart Award in Education, established
in memory of Institute's visionary founder.
The William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust was
also recognized for its long-standing support of
Lincoln Center Institute.
For more than three decades Lincoln Center Institute
has been dedicated to bringing dance, music, theater,
film, architecture, and visual arts into classrooms,
challenging students to learn about and through the
arts. Through
partnerships with pre-K through graduate level educators
in New York City and across the nation, LCI reaches
more than 3,600 teachers, 120 higher education faculty,
and 4,200 teacher candidates annually. Since the
Institute's inception, its educational approach
has reached over 19 million students worldwide.
