On
October 30 The New York Landmarks Conservancy
(NYLC) held its 14th Annual Living Landmarks
Celebration at Cipriani 42nd
Street. Every year, the NYLC honors distinguished New
Yorkers as “Living Landmarks” for their
contributions to New York City. This year's honorees
included actress Lauren Bacall; fashion
designer Oscar de la Renta; interior
designer and preservationist Mica Ertegun;
renowned opera singer Jessye Norman,
and theater legend Gerald Schoenfeld.
Wall Street executive and longtime public servant John
C. Whitehead received the Lew Rudin award.
The evening was hosted by Liz
Smith who co-chaired the event along with Barry
Diller and Diane von Furstenberg and Howard
Rubenstein. Music was provided by Peter
Duchin and his Orchestra.
The New York Landmarks Conservancy is dedicated to
preserving, restoring and reusing architecturally significant
buildings throughout New York. Since its founding
in 1973, NYLC has provided more than $35 million in
grants and low-interest loans, accompanied by countless
hours of hands-on technical consulting to owners of
historic homes, businesses, schools, houses of worship,
theaters, cultural institutions, affordable housing
units and community centers. The work of NYLC
enhances New York's quality of life and preserves
the character of our City for future generations.
