capacity audience of 3,500 attended the Lyric
Opera of Chicago's Opening
Night Gala Benefit performance at the Chicago Civic
Center on September 16. The evening featured David
Hockney's sumptuous production of Puccini's Turandot, starring Andrea
Gruber in the title role and tenor Vladimir
Galouzine as Calaf. The festivities continued
at the Opera Ball at the Hilton Chicago, where 700
guests enjoyed a lavish evening of dinner and dancing.
The gala, a project of the Women's Board of
Lyric Opera of Chicago, raised more than $562,000.
