The
Mental Health Association of New York
City (MHA of NYC) presented its
2009 Gala, “Building Bridges to Health, Home and Families,” on
June 2, 2009 to raise awareness and resources for programs that support
the mental health needs of veterans and their families. The evening
honored two inspirational Americans, Bob Woodruff, former co-anchor
of ABC's “World News Tonight,” and his wife Lee.
Bob suffered severe head injuries from a roadside bomb while reporting
from the war in Iraq, and Lee was instrumental in his recovery. Together
they established a foundation focused on helping veterans who have
suffered head injuries and psychological wounds to successfully re-integrate
into society. The event was held at Guastavino's at 409 East
59th Street in Manhattan. Two-time Emmy Award-winning anchor of Inside
Edition and best selling author, Deborah Norville served as Mistress
of Ceremonies for the evening. The event raised $325,000 and 435 guests
attended.
Dennis Friedrich, president/COO, U.S. Operations, Brookfield Properties;
Christopher R. Ludeman, president, CB Richard Ellis; Paul Massey, founder/chairman,
Massey Knakal Real Estate; Joseph Peyronnin III, co-chair, MHA of NYC; and
Susan Zirinsky, executive producer of 48 Hours were Dinner chairmen.
