The Museum of Modern Art celebrated the opening of Against the Grain: Contemporary Art from the Edward R. Broida Collection on May 3 with a private viewing and dinner.
Against the Grain (on view from May 3 through July 10, 2006) includes more than 100 paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints, selected from Edward R. Broida's recent gift to the Museum of 175 works of art. Highlights of the collection include works by Vija Celmins, Philip Guston, Jennifer Bartlett and Christopher Wilmarth. Mr. Broida, an architect and real estate developer who died last month at age 72, developed a collection of some 700 objects notable for its great diversity of contemporary works of art.
