Atmosphere.

On October 30, The Museum of Modern Art hosted a dinner to celebrate the opening of Martin Puryear, a retrospective that charts the development of Puryear's (American, b. 1941) oeuvre over the last 30 years, and features 47 works of sculpture primarily in wood, but also in tar, stone, and wire.  For the first time, The Donald B. and Catherine C. Marron Atrium is devoted to the work of a single artist, including a never-before-seen, large-scale work titled Ad Astra (2007).  The exhibition is organized by John Elderfield, The Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture, The Museum of Modern Art, and is on view from November 4, 2007, through January 14, 2008 in The Joan and Preston Robert Tisch Gallery, sixth floor, and The Marron Atrium, second floor.
