On November 14, The Museum of Modern Art presented Jazz Interlude, an elegant evening hosted by The Friends of Education, a Museum affiliate group devoted to encouraging greater appreciation of art made by African Americans and the participation of African Americans at MoMA. The event was chaired by
Sherry B. Bronfman.
This year, Jazz Interlude honored educator and producer Dr. Camille O. Cosby for her commitment to higher education and her dedication to the support of African American artists. They presented Dr. Cosby with a 2006 photograph by Ming Smith based on the work Invisible Man: A Memorial to Ralph Ellison by Elizabeth Catlett(2003).
The evening included a cocktail reception, followed by a jazz performance and a black-tie dinner. The one-hour jazz performance, produced by George T. Wein, featured Lizz Wright, vocals; Terri Lynne Carrington, drums; Jimmy Heath, tenor sax; Geri Allen, piano; and Charnett Moffett, bass.
