The Mount
Sinai Medical Center held its 23rd annual Crystal Ball
on Thursday, May 1. The black tie event, which was held in
the medical center's Guggenheim Pavilion, raised more than
$3.1 million, which goes towards research initiatives at the Mount
Sinai School of Medicine. The dinner chairmen were Elissa
Gretz Friedman, MD, and Robert Friedman.
Among the more than 1,500 guests were Louise and Edgar
Cullman Sr., Gail and Carl Icahn, Ellen and Howard
Katz, Meryl Tisch, and Leni and Peter
May. Former NBA great Magic Johnson was
a special guest for the evening.
The Mount Sinai Medical Center encompasses The Mount Sinai Hospital
and Mount Sinai School of Medicine. The Mount Sinai Hospital is one
of the nation's oldest, largest and most-respected voluntary
hospitals. Founded in 1852, Mount Sinai today is a 1,171-bed tertiary-care
teaching facility that is internationally acclaimed for excellence
in clinical care. Last year, nearly 50,000 people were treated at
Mount Sinai as inpatients, and there were nearly 450,000 outpatient
visits to the Medical Center.
