National Symphony Orchestra Ball

An indoor fireworks display accompanied the National Symphony Orchestra's performance of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture.

The National Symphony Orchestra's (NSO) Opening Concert and Ball took place on September 24, officially marking the beginning of a new season for the NSO and the Kennedy Center.  Music Director Leonard Slatkin conducted an all Tchaikovsky program featuring renowned soloists Joshua Bell, Irina Mataeva, and Daniil Shtoda, as well as an appearance by The United States Army Chorus.  The concert was followed by a gala dinner and dancing. Elaine and James Wolfensohn and Sarah and Bill Walton served as Ball chairmen.
