On
November 20, New York City Ballet launched
its 2007-
2008 season with the Opening Night Gala. One
of the most eagerly
anticipated events of the fall season, the evening
featured a one-time-only
performance followed by an elegant black-tie Supper
Ball on the
Promenade of the New York State Theater. The
Gala was attended by 750 guests and raised over $1.6
million.
The
program featured excerpts from The Sleeping
Beauty; a special preview
of an upcoming film version of Jerome Robbins' N. Y. Export: Opus
Jazz, conceived and created by NYCB soloists Ellen Bar and Sean
Suozzi; Christopher Wheeldon's Liturgy; excerpts from Balanchine's Western
Symphony; the World Premiere of Peter Martins' Grazioso;
and A Life for the Tsar, which features one hundred and fifty four
performers from the Company and the School of American Ballet.
Event
chairmen were Candace and Frederick
Beinecke, Carol Mack, Barbara and John
Vogelstein, and Linda Wells.
