ARTS presented four awards for outstanding leadership and advocacy
of the arts in New York State at its annual gala on Monday, November
17, 2008, at the Manhattan Penthouse in New York City.
Tony award winner, Barbara Cook; Elysabeth Kleinhans' 59E59
Theaters, Phoebe Jacobs, executive vice president of the Louis Armstrong
Educational Foundation, and Kristin Swain, president of Corning Incorporated
Foundation and executive director of The Rockwell Museum of Western
Art, were recognized for outstanding commitment and dedication to
arts education and advocacy.
In recognition of legendary honoree Barbara Cook, Broadway
performers, Kelli O'Hara, Rebecca Luker and Michael Dansicker
serenaded Cook's legend by singing a musical homage.
Guests included columnist, Stanley Crouch, Tony Award
winner for her role in The Color Purple, LaChanze; Broadway's
Sebastian in The Little Mermaid, Tituss Burgess; Broadway's
Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins, Scarlett Strallen; and Broadway's
Bert in Mary Poppins, Adam Fiorentino.
