Mayor
Michael R. Bloomberg and the Honorable Henry M.
Paulson Jr., former chairman of the Board of The Nature
Conservancy, were joined by more than 400 prominent New Yorkers
and leaders of the world's top financial institutions and
corporations to raise $2.5 million to fight climate change, save
the Earth's forests, and promote the development of green
buildings around the world.
The funds were raised Monday, April 28, at The Nature Conservancy's annual
spring gala, which was held at Hearst Tower, Manhattan's first
occupied Gold LEED-certified office building.
Guests gathered in the building's sumptuous lobby to learn
and experience The Nature Conservancy's work through interactive
kiosks featuring a “carbon calculator,” and conversations
with field experts from the Conservancy's Brazilian Amazon
and China program. The evening's entertainment featured a high-energy
Brazilian percussion band, Chinese acrobats and stilt-walkers, as
well as short but moving music video.
The Gala chairs were Katherine Farley and Jerry
I. Speyer, Haydée and Alain Belda, Patricia and Victor
F. Ganzi, Mary Lake Polan and Frank
A. Bennack, Jr. and Christy and John
J. Mack.
