Orchestra of St. Luke's gala at the Allen Room, Jazz at
Lincoln Center.

On May 21, the Orchestra
of St. Luke's (OSL) presented its annual “Gift of Music Award” at a gala event at The Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Each year, the OSL presents this award to an artist or leader in philanthropy or business who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. The 2007 “Gift of Music Award” was presented to Joseph
A. DiMenna, a member of the board directors of the Orchestra of St. Luke's.
The
gala benefit, attended by 370 guests, raised over $1
million, a record for the event. Among those
attending, in addition to honoree Joseph A. DiMenna
and event co-chairs Arthur
Samberg, Fred Stein,
and Martin Zweig, were event host Barbara Feldon, David
Monn (who was also the event producer), Susan and Elihu
Rose, Gayfryd and Saul
Steinberg, Richard Gilder and Lois
Chiles, Roger and Susan
Hertog, Josie and Kenneth
Natori, Byron Wien, James
Marcus, Judy and Anthony
Evnin, Georgia and Ronald
Frasch, John Hargraves and Nancy
Newcomb, Louise Mirrer, Ashley
Schiff, and Steven Sadove.
Jazz at Lincoln Center artistic director Wynton
Marsalis made a brief appearance during the
award presentation to offer his congratulations to Mr.
DiMenna. The evening also featured a short video on the
OSL and a performance by the orchestra and mezzo-soprano Kate
Lindsey of music by Mozart, Rodgers, and Gershwin.
