On April
27, The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra presented
its 33rd Annual Patrons Gala at the Metropolitan
Club. The festive evening began with cocktails in
the Grand Foyer of the Club, followed by a concert.
Orpheus musicians were joined by Zhang Qiang,
a master of the Chinese pipa, in a performance of Tan
Dun's Concerto for Pipa and Strings as
well as audience favorites including works by Mozart,
Debussy, and Paganini. Dinner and a live auction
followed.
Honorees for the gala were composer Tan
Dun and philanthropist Edmund
C. Duffy. Gala co-chairs were Heidi
Neuhoff and Lizabeth and Frank
Newman. Vice-chairs were Kate
Hughes Del Tufo and Robert Del
Tufo, Janet and R. Foster Nevius, Vivki
Rosen Solomon and Adam Solomon, Connie
Steensma and Rick Prins, Carol and Tim
Rattrau, and Simon Yates.
All proceeds will provide essential support for
Orpheus' excellent artistic, touring, and
education programs.
