On
November 2, The Princess Grace Foundation-USA held
its Awards Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York
City. HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco
and fashion designer Norma Kamali presented Twyla
Tharp with the Prince Rainier III Award in
honor of her outstanding contribution to the arts.
Other presenters included: actor, singer Jesse
L. Martin in the theater category, two-time
Tony winner Chita Rivera in the dance category,
actor Anthony Michael Hall in the film
category and Ethan Stiefel presented
the Statue Award.
For the second year Larry King was
the Master of Ceremonies. Princess Grace Foundation
chairman and 9/11 Commissioner John F. Lehman,
event co-chairs Ann Colley, Valesca Guerrand-Hermės and John and Karen
Klopp were also on hand at the Gala event. The
evening also included a surprise performance by Alexa
Ray Joel, daughter of Billy Joel and Christie
Brinkley. Amanda Hearst hosted
the after party lounge.
The Princess Grace Foundation-USA,
created in memory of the late Princess Grace of Monaco
to help aspiring artists realize their dreams of a
performing arts career America. Proceeds
from the event benefit the Princess Grace Awards, a
national grants program offering scholarships, apprenticeships,
and fellowships to emerging artists in the performing
arts. Since 1984 the Foundation has awarded over $4
million to more than 400 individuals nationwide in
the areas of theatre, dance, and film.
