On
October 2, the Rubin Museum of Art held
its Nine Rivers Gala, celebrating the museum's
third anniversary while showing appreciation to the
Himalayas. The evening honored Dr. Muhammad
Yunus, President Bill Clinton and Ishmael
Beah.
Honorary chairs included William F. Baker,
H.E. Ambassador Sald T. Jawad of Afghanistan, Bob
Kerrey, William H. Luers, Mr. Daw Penjo of The Kingdom
of Bhutan, Matthieu Ricard, Susan Sarandon, Diane
Von Furstenberg and Elie Wiesel.
Event co-chairs were Shelley Rubin, Harvey
Sigelbaum and Kathy Sloane. Event
vice chairs included Omar Amanat, Robert
Baylis, Eva Haller, Mary Lanier, Daniel Schwartz and Lyn
D. Traverse.
The Rubin Museum of Art is the first museum of its
kind in the Western world, with a unique mission to
establish, present, preserve, and document a
permanent collection that reflects the vitality, complexity,
and historical significance of Himalayan art.
