On
January 19, the South Florida Science Museum held
its 21st annual black-tie fundraiser, The Diamond
Constellation Ball, in the elegant Venetian Ballroom
of The Breakers Palm Beach. At this special
milestone, this year's chairman, Beverly
White Yeager honored all past chairmen
whose devotion and support over the years has brought
the galas to their present heights. The Diamond
Constellation Ball has become one of Palm Beach's
most successful galas and again this year, it did
not disappoint.
At the Reception in the Mediterranean Ballroom,
guests enjoyed cocktails from the creatively devised
Laboratory Bar served by bartenders in “scientist” white
lab coats and perused the selection of exclusive
items in the silent auction. Among the array
of items was an opportunity to adopt an aquarium
in the Science Museum's McGinty Aquarium,
as well as group of four seats in the Science Museum's
Buzz Aldrin Planetarium for one year. The
Museum introduced a new concept into the live auction
this year with the intent of solidifying the critical
connection between sponsorship and programming. To
Teach a Child is a focused on direct sponsorship
of classrooms within Palm Beach County Title 1
schools, enabling entire classrooms to travel to
the SFSM and participate in hands-on experiential
science learning.
Beverly White Yeager and her committee, together
with Mary Frances Turner as co-chairman,
and Julie Rudolph and Kathryn
C. Vecellio as distinguished honorary
chairmen succeeded in giving their guests a spectacular
evening.
Guests included: Beverly and Weldon
Yeager, Mary Frances Turner, T. Russell Sherrill,
Julie and Howard Rudolph, Katie and Leo
Vecellio, Ashley and Joe Maguire,
Sarah Alsofrom, Virginia Oatley, Frances Webster,
Frances and Jeffrey Fisher,
Hermé de
Wyman Miro, Michael Vecellio, Angela Culveyhouse,
Bill Bone, Nancy and Wyckoff
Myers, Anita Dubnoff, Lorna and Rhys
Williams, William Meyer, and Mayor Lois
Frankel.
The South Florida Science Museum is presently in
the middle of the public phase of a 54 million dollar
capital campaign to build a new state-of the art
science center. This unique and comprehensive
center will be a symbol of the community's
cultural strength and commitment to education and
workforce development in science and technology careers.
