The San
Francisco Symphony (SFS) celebrated the
opening of the 2007-08 season with an elegant Opening
Gala on September 19 in Davies Symphony Hall. The
special gala performance featured music director Michael
Tilson Thomas leading the SFS and world-renowned
soprano Renée Fleming in
a program that included Ravel's Shéhérazade and
arias from Puccini's Tosca and Gianni
Schicchi.
Margaret Liu Collins, Opening Gala chairperson,
spearheaded a stellar volunteer committee to fashion
a delightful black-tie event. The Patrons' Dinner,
co-chaired by Rebecca Green Birdsall, Courtenay
Corrigan, Juliet de Baubigny, Beth
Holland, Karen Jung, and Anita
Wornick began with a cocktail reception in Davies
Symphony Hall, after which patrons enjoyed a sumptuous
dinner in the Tent Pavilion. The Symphony Supper, co-chaired
by Tina Tunney and Carla Zuber and
the Symphonix Dinner, co-chaired by Makai Fisher and Stefanie
Roumeliotes were each preceded by a cocktail
reception in the stately South Light Court at City Hall,
followed by a seated dinner. The Symphony Supper, a favorite
of long-standing patrons, League members, and business
professionals, took place in the opulent Rotunda. The
Symphonix Dinner was attended by an exciting group of
young philanthropists, business people, and future community
leaders, and took place in the North Light Court.
