The Samuel
Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF),
one of the leading cancer research foundations in
the U.S., raised almost $4 million at its Ninth Annual
Collaborating for a Cure Benefit on November 30 at
the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. The sold
out 1000-seat event premiered a virtual reality silent
auction and live auction that was launched over the
Internet and featured a musical performance by John
Fogerty . Michael Nierenberg,
SWCRFchairman of the Board, co-chaired
the evening with his wife Elin.
The
SWCRF has been instrumental in developing new drugs
to successfully treat cancer, and has trained and supported
more than 160 scientists by awarding them with over $55
million in grants. Based at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center
in New York City, the Foundation funds highly collaborative
basic translational and clinical research groups throughout
the United States, Canada, China, Israel and Europe.
Presently, 50 scientists work within SWCRF's “Institute
Without Walls” with emphasis on breast, lung, liver
and prostate cancer, blood malignancies and melanoma.
