The Wildlife
Conservation Society (WCS) presented
an evening celebration of conservation, wildlife protection and
appreciation of the natural world we inhabit at their annual spring
gala on June 3. SAFARI! India, and the junior
after-party An Evening at the Central Park Zoo were held
in the heart of Manhattan at the WCS Central Park Zoo.
The Wildlife Conservation Society honored Mr. David
T. Schiff for his unwavering support and celebrated the
Wildlife Conservation Society's work in India led by tiger
expert Dr. K. Ullas Karanth, winner of the 2007
J. Paul Getty Award for Conservation Leadership.
Honorary chairs Vice President Al Gore with his
wife Tipper Gore and musician Wynton
Marsalis along with many social and celebrity notables were
in attendance to support the Society's important work conserving
and protecting wild animals and natural animal habitats around the
world. Guests included Mr. David T. Schiff, Lisa Schiff,
Ann and Andrew Tisch, Allison and Leonard
Stern, Katharina Otto-Bernstein and Nathan Bernstein,
Muffie Potter Aston and Dr. Sherrell J. Aston, Dayssi and Paul
Kanavos, Marie Brenner and Ernie Pomeranz, Georgette
Mosbacher, Carroll Petrie, Mr. Harrison Lefrak, Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Lefrak, and WCS president, Dr. Steve Sanderson.
The Wildlife Conservation SAFARI! and An Evening at
the Central Park Zoo are annualbenefits for the Wildlife Conservation
Society that inspire and educate guests about the importance of
the WCS as a worldwide conservation organization, urban oasis,
source of science education, and caretaker of the world's
largest system of urban wildlife parks. Proceeds from these events
support the WCS's local and global efforts.
